I have decided it is time to go back to this blog. I think it will have more interest than it did, but I really didn’t give it much of a chance.
This is a place to talk about food, food politics, food business, and, oh, did I mention food.
I had this for lunch yesterday. A very good BLT. Most of you have already seen it, but this is a trial run anyway.
The bacon is Wright’s Bacon. I particularly like this brand of bacon and it is a top tier bacon. There are other brands that are as good or slightly better than Wright’s but not many and, if I recall correctly, only Petit Jean is available here. We have settled on this bacon.
The tomatoes are fresh from the Berry Farm, vine ripened, started from seed by yours truly. These aren’t brandywines, but they are good and grocery tomatoes can’t compare. Grocery tomatoes are picked green and usually gassed to make them red. Grocery tomatoes will remind you of tomatoes, but don’t taste anything like vine ripened tomatoes.
The lettuce, unfortunately, is grocery lettuce. We bought Romaine. We have planted lettuce, but lettuce and tomatoes don’t overlap here. Lettuce is a winter/spring food and tomatoes are a hot summer and early fall crop.
The bread is just double fiber wheat grocery bread, and the mayo is Helimans. I substantially prefer it to any of the other commercial brands. I have made mayo before, but am not usually inclined.
It was a pretty good sammich.
